Overview
Energy Safe Victoria's approach to enforcing compliance with AS/NZS 5601.1 2022 for complex gas installations
AS/NZS 5601.1:2022 Gas installations Part 1: General installations was published on 30 September 2022 by Standards Australia.
A 6 month transition period was provided for implementation of the 2022 standard. With the 6 month transition period now expired, Energy Safe Victoria is taking this opportunity to provide guidance to industry on the application of AS/NZS 5601.1:2022 for complex gas installations.
As a reminder, from 30 March 2023, all new gasfitting work must be installed to comply with the 2022 published standard.
Energy Safe will enforce compliance with AS/NZS 5601.1:2022 unless the complex gasfitting work:
- Was completed prior to 30 March 2023
- Commenced prior to 30 September 2022
- The work relates to new building work where the building permit was issued prior to 30 September 2022.
If your gas installation falls within one of the above listed scenarios, then your gas installation can continue to be installed to the 2013 edition of AS/NZS 5601.1 and will be assessed for compliance against the 2013 standard unless you nominate AS/NZS 5601.1:2022 as the standard you have complied with.
